Beautiful piece! Thank you for sharing!
I've been thinking recently how patriarchy, capitalism, and slavery/exploitation all go together. I wonder if to transcend patriarchy in America we will have to some extent transcend capitalism towards a more collaborative form of socialism. It's never an either/or, as there are always combined elements, but I'm talking more of a shift.
I've been realizing this year how many elements of extreme capitalism are internalized in so many people: not allowing ourselves to rest, competition, idolizing work, feeling ashamed -- or being shamed -- for needing a break, and more. The system doesn't allow us to be human in our fullest sense.
I also wonder if it's particularly hard on those of us who are interested in so many areas of life, wanting to constantly learn and explore. Being pinned down in an office job really feels like a major violence.
